Historic Barn Beam Bench – Century-Old Hand-Hewn Wood
Custom Barn Beam Benches, Made to Order
A piece of local history, made for everyday living.
Handcrafted from solid, hand-hewn Douglas fir beams salvaged from a local century barn in Halton Hills, each bench preserves the character of the wood’s first life—old saw marks, hand-hewn edges, natural grain and the details left by earlier generations of craftspeople.
We carefully select, clean and restore each beam, bringing out its natural warmth while preserving the markings that make it unique. The result is solid, substantial seating for an entryway, a dining space or a quiet corner of your home or cottage.
Made to suit your space
Benches can be made to your preferred length, depth and height, up to a maximum length of 10 feet. Standard benches are approximately 10 inches deep, with greater depths available at an additional cost.
Choose a natural, smoothly sanded and burnished surface, or add a water-resistant polyurethane topcoat for $90–$200 extra, depending on the bench’s size.
Typical production time is three to four weeks.
Please reach out before purchasing to discuss your preferred dimensions and finish. I can send photos of the available beam options so you can choose the character and appearance you love before placing your order.
The bench pictured in the first five photos:
This distinctive bench measures 84 inches long × 11 inches deep × 18 inches high and is currently available.
Based on the barn’s age and the beam’s growth rings, we estimate that the tree began growing in the 1700s. Its original mortise joint creates a unique storage space for books, magazines and devices, with openings through the back and top to accommodate charging cables.
This particular bench weighs approximately 200 pounds and is available for local delivery or pickup only.
Please note
Natural cracks, knots, old nail holes and variations in colour and texture are part of reclaimed wood’s character. Each bench will have its own distinctive appearance.
Orders delivered outside Canada may be subject to tariffs, duties or other import charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility.
